    FemtoJet® micro-injection system

perfectly suited for injecting small volumes, wide functionality with simple operation

    FemtoJet® micro-injection system ~ overview

    Eppendorf FemtoJet micro-injection system

For injecting small to intermediate volumes (up to 100 pl), the original FemtoJet is perfectly suited, featuring a wide range of functionality, simple operation and built-in compressor to independently deliver the required pressure.

It is ideal for injecting aqueous solutions into adherent cells (and makes the ideal partner with our InjectMan NI 2 and 5179, as well as Model 5171) and suspension cells (with TransferMan NK 2). The FemtoJet forms the perfect system with Eppendorf micromanipulators, and it integrates just as easily with non-Eppendorf microinjection systems.

    Applications: FemtoJet

    • Semiautomatic injection into adherent cells with InjectMan NI 2 (and older models 5171 and InjectMan 5179)
    • Suspension cell injection with TransferMan NK 2
    • Pronuclear injections into mouse embryos
    • Serial injection volumes from femtoliter up to 100 pl

    FemtoJet® micro-injection system ~ features

    Eppendorf FemtoJet micro-injection system
    • Programmable injection ensures reproducibility
    • Injection volumes range from femtoliters to microliters
    • User-friendly interface with large LCD display for easy operation
    • Inject and Clean functions triggered via control button on instrument, supplied mouse or optional foot control
    • Electronic linkage to InjectMan NI 2
    • Easily combined with all common micromanipulation systems

FemtoJet in comparison with our new FemtoJet express

The FemtoJet and our new FemtoJet express microinjectors are non identical twins sharing many features, which makes them both an excellent choice for any kind of microinjection of aqueous solutions into adherent cells, suspension cells or small organisms.

The important difference is that the new FemtoJet express uses pressure from an external supply while the FemtoJet has a build in compressor to work as a stand alone unit. Both share the identical broad range in settings for injection time and pressure, but the external pressure supply makes the FemtoJet express the preferred choice if injecting greater volumes ( >100 picoliters) and/or longer series at higher pressures are required - as increasingly seen in functional genomics and developmental biology applications.

FemtoJet and FemtoJet express feature chart

Both the FemtoJet and FemtoJet express feature the identical range of injection times and pressures to address a wide range of applications. If higher volumes are required more often in your experiments, the FemtoJet express is our recommendation, while the FemtoJet should be your choice if you preferrently use smaller volumes.

How do you remove pieces of broken glass capillaries from the capillary holder?

Can FemtoJet/FemtoJet express be controlled externally, e.g. by a TTL connection?

The pressure tube connected with the universal capillary holder 5176 190.002 is missing. What do I have to order?

What is the compensation pressure pc?

What is the outer diameter of the universal capillary holder?

I want to use my own capillaries with Eppendorf microinjectors. Which capillary grip would fit my tips?

Which grip head is included in the delivery package of the FemtoJet/FemtoJet express?

"How can the different grip heads be distinguished?"

Are all parts that I need for the connection of the FemtoJet/FemtoJet express to the InjectMan NI 2 included in the standard accessories or are additional parts required? Back to top
All necessary cables and tubes are included in the standard accessories. However, the adapter for the special microscope must be ordered separately.
How do you remove pieces of broken glass capillaries from the capillary holder? Back to top
For this purpose we offer a Service kit (5176 195.004) that contains an appropriate tool. Alternatively you can also use a thin metal wire.
Can FemtoJet/FemtoJet express be controlled externally, e.g. by a TTL connection? Back to top
Yes. The device can be controlled externally via an RS 232 interface.
The pressure tube connected with the universal capillary holder 5176 190.002 is missing. What do I have to order? Back to top
"According to the injectors in use you have to order the following tubes:
    Connection to CellTram Air/Oil/vario: 5176 114.004
    Connection to Transjector/FemtoJet/FemtoJet express: 5246 164.004"
What is the compensation pressure pc? Back to top
The compensation pressure pc ensures that no culture medium flows into the capillary during microinjection experiments. Capillary forces would make liquid flow out of the cell culture dish into the injection capillary and thus dilute the injection material. To prevent this, a permanent compensation pressure pc is set. This should be selected so that there is a permanent slight flow-out of liquid from the injection capillary. The individual pressure level can be determined in a preliminary test.
What is the outer diameter of the universal capillary holder? Back to top
The outer diameter is 4 mm.
I want to use my own capillaries with Eppendorf microinjectors. Which capillary grip would fit my tips? Back to top
"All Eppendorf microinjectors (Transjector, FemtoJet/FemtoJet express and CellTram) are equipped with the Universal Capillary Holder. Different grip heads can be interchanged for the use of capillaries with different outer diameters. Use the table below to determine which grip head suits your needs.
Description Capillary grip 0: fits microcapillaries with an outer diameter of 1.0 to 1.1 mm, order no. 5176 210.003
Capillary grip 1: fits microcapillaries with an outer diameter of 1.2 to 1.3 mm, order no. 5176 212.006
Capillary grip 2: fits microcapillaries with an outer diameter of 1.4 to 1.5 mm, order no. 5176 214.009
Capillary grip 3: fits microcapillaries with an outer diameter of 0.7 to 0.9 mm, order no. 5176 207.002 "
Which grip head is included in the delivery package of the FemtoJet/FemtoJet express? Back to top
Grip head number 0. It can be used for capillaries with an outer diameter of 1,0-1,1 mm.
"How can the different grip heads be distinguished?" Back to top
The grip heads have different numbers of notches. The grip head 0 has no notch at all; the grip head 3 has, for example, three notches
